Participation, co-creation and engagement methods for any process that involves people. Pick one by what you are trying to achieve and by the constraints you actually have.

Who this is for

Working on a NEXTLOGIC pilot? The Pilot Toolbox tags a subset of these methods by pilot and by intervention type.

Start here

  1. Decide what you are trying to achieve — that is the Goal tag, and it is the primary way in.
  2. Narrow by the constraints you actually have: what phase you are in, whether it must run online, how many people will be in the room, how much effort you can afford.
  3. Check the participation level before committing. It states the highest degree of influence the method genuinely gives people. Promising more than the method delivers is the most common way participation loses credibility.
  4. Open the sheet. Every method has the same structure: what it is · when to use · steps · materials · output · watch out for · sources.

The six filters

Filter What it tells you
Goal MAP · ONBOARD · ENGAGE · ALIGN · NEGOTIATE · CO-CREATE · EVALUATE
Phase Explore → Define → Design → Test → Scale. Where in the process the method sits
Participation level Team internal · Inform · Consult · Involve · Collaborate · Empower. How much influence people actually get
Setting In-person · Online · Hybrid
Group size 1–8 · 8–25 · 25–100 · open to the public
Domain Where the method has an evidence base. Most are domain-agnostic

The seven goal clusters

Cluster Purpose
🗺️ MAP Understand who is involved, what they want, and where the tensions sit
🤝 ONBOARD Bring the right people to the table
🔄 ENGAGE Keep them active over months, not weeks
🎯 ALIGN Move divergent views toward shared ground
⚖️ NEGOTIATE Handle incompatible goals without manufacturing false consensus
🛠️ CO-CREATE Produce concrete solutions together
📈 EVALUATE Find out whether any of it worked, and learn from it
